Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture
What is acupuncture and how does it work?
Acupuncture is a holistic healing practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves gently inserting very fine needles into specific points along energy meridians to regulate the flow of Qi (vital energy). This activates your body's natural healing response, releases endorphins, and improves circulation. Performed by a licensed practitioner using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture is recognized by the WHO as safe and effective for treating numerous conditions.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little to no pain. You may notice a slight sensation when the needles are inserted—such as a tingling, warmth, or heaviness—which is normal and often a sign that your body is responding. Many clients find the experience relaxing.
What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture can support a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety, chronic pain, digestive concerns, sleep issues, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, and more. It also works well as a preventative and supportive therapy for overall well-being.
What is intuitive medicine and how does it compliment acupuncture?
Intuitive medicine uses heightened perception to assess energy fields and identify imbalances before they manifest physically. When combined with acupuncture, this approach allows for truly personalized treatment that addresses root causes rather than just symptoms, creating more profound and lasting healing effects.
How do I need to prepare for my appointment?
Eat a light meal beforehand and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol before your session, and plan some time afterward to rest and let the treatment settle in.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your initial 90-minute acupuncture and intuitive medicine session will include a thorough intake, where we’ll discuss your health history, lifestyle, and goals. You may also experience additional offered modalities (see the Acupuncture page for more information).
How many treatments will I need?
Healing is unique to each person. Some conditions respond quickly, while others may require a series of treatments to see lasting results. We’ll work together to create a plan that supports your body’s pace and process.
Why are your acupuncture sessions 90 minutes, when most clinics offer 45–60 minute treatments?
While many acupuncture treatments are shorter, I offer 90-minute sessions to allow your body the time it truly needs to unwind and heal. It’s often said that it takes about 45 minutes for the body to fully relax—so the additional time creates space for a deeper, more complete experience. My intuition, along with the many modalities I offer (see the Acupuncture page for more info), creates sessions that are designed to support you on all levels—physical, emotional, and spiritual—so you leave feeling grounded, nourished, and more connected to yourself.
